Patches
Birth control patches use hormones in the same way as birth control pills. The patches contain a combination of Estrogen and Progesterone that work together to thicken the cervical mucus (so the sperm cannot reach the egg) and they also stop the ovaries from letting go of the egg.
The big difference between birth control patches and birth control pills is that you don't need to apply the birth control patch daily. Instead you apply a new patch once a week, for 3 full weeks. At the end of the week you take it off and apply a new patch. After week 3 you do not apply a new patch so you have a one week break. During this break time you should bleed like you would do on a regular monthly period.
The patches are easy to apply and at natural color so blend in quite well to the skin. The thickness is like a thin plaster so it comfortable to wear - it's not painful at all while it is on or when you remove it.
The birth control patch needs to be securely stuck to the skin to optimal birth control. If it is not sealed to the skin then it is less effective. Also, if you are overweight with a BMI of over 25 then the patch, like other birth control methods, is less effective.
